AI in the Workplace
Overview
This hands-on 4 hour course is designed for office workers seeking to understand and use AI tools effectively in their daily tasks.
AI is rapidly transforming the modern workplace. This course provides historical context, demonstrates current AI capabilities, and explores how AI tools - from Microsoft 365's Copilot to major generative AI platforms - support productivity, creativity, communication, and decision making. Participants learn both how AI is already affecting their daily work and how to prepare for future advancements. As this topic is still relatively new, this course outline may change over time as new concepts are revealed.
Prerequisites
- A computer with reliable internet access with intermediate experience
- Permissions to use AI tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, Firefly, etc.)
- Access to and experience with Microsoft 365 apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
Learning objectives
Through the use of hands-on exercises, participants will learn to:
- Understand core AI concepts - including AI, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Narrow AI and General AI.
- Identify existing AI features in workplace tools.
- Understand Microsoft Copilot's role in Microsoft 365.
- Use of AI-powered features in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
- Compare leading generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Firefly).
- Apply AI tools from other platforms (Google Workspace, Adobe Firefly).
- Evaluate benefits and limitations of AI in the workplace.
- Implement ethical and responsible AI practices.
